Biswas means "faith" or "faithful" or "trust." It is a common family name for Hindus in the Bengali speaking parts of South Asia. Most live in Barisal, Jessore, and Khulna, three districts in Bangladesh.
Though they were always farmers, the Biswas people are moving to urban centers in hopes of getting higher paying jobs. Now many of them are artists, businessmen and government employees.
Though they are entirely Hindu, the Biswas community sometimes joins the Muslims in their celebrations. They also have their own unique festivals and spiritual practices.
The Biswas people need a John 10:10 blessing: The abundant life Jesus offers those who are willing to submit to his lordship.
Pray for the Biswas culture to be renewed and enhanced by a work of the Holy Spirit and shaped into a God-centered and God-honoring mold.
Pray for the Holy Spirit to move among their family and community leaders to seek his face and enjoy his blessings.
Pray for the Lord to thrust out workers who will be compelled to nurture a disciple making movement among the Biswas people.
Pray that soon the Biswas people will have faith that will lead them to live honorable lives that will draw others to the savior.
Pray for spiritual discernment and a hunger for true spirituality.
